Convergence

© Jenny Sabin Studio

Convergence is the competition-winning sculptural design for the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Northwall Plaza, designed by Jenny Sabin Studio with engineering by schlaich bergermann partner. Its innovative fabrication technique makes it one of the largest 3D printed stainless steel structures in the world. It’s clad with polycarbonate panels covered with acrylic film that reflect wave lengths of light to illuminate the sculpture and the plaza. The sculpture is stiffened by and stabilized on a stainless steel ring at the base against which the cables supporting the panels are tensioned. This ring also connects to the foundation and gives the sculpture its dramatic sense of balance.
