The symbol of the ecumenical church day 2003 in Berlin was the halo. Such a halo in form of a air-filled hose was placed on the Pariser Platz directly in front of the Brandburg Gate as the so-called “Great Heaven’s Gate”. The loadbearing structure for the torus with an outer diameter of 26 m was the result of the cooperation with the architects D:4 from Berlin. The torus is supported by six slender, almost 13 m long tubular steel elements and stiffened according to the spoked-wheel principle. The hose is simply tied to the steel substructure.
