Artes Amant is a new building for a private art gallery at 306 Maujer Street in Brooklyn, to host the production, the display and the storage of art.
The building respects the industrial heritage of the site and the concrete design mixes the robustness of the material in its reinforced work for the structure with the elegance of the concrete shell façade. The forms are fluid, “challenging the perception of a defined space” and allow natural light to move through the building. The double curved roof structure still exposes the concrete work and defines shapes, creating a greater demand to perfect the concrete work and the formwork system. The roofs and exterior wall comprise a two-part concrete shell prepared in two steps to account for the special demands on the crack widths.
The planning of the building is currently on hold.
