Roig Arena is an iconic multi-functional arena in Valencia that is to host world-class music, arts, culture and sporting events. It will also be the new home of Valencia Basket, since for years the Fonteta de Sant Lluis has not met the capacity needs. The arena is currently in the final stages of construction, and is expected to open its doors to the public in about a year. It will have a seating capacity of around 15,600 for basketball matches and other sporting events, and an estimated maximum capacity for 18,600 people in concert format.
The stadium bowl consists of a steel structure with prefabricated concrete slabs. Eight large longitudinal mega trusses form the roof structure and cross the building from east to west, providing the arena with a certain visual dynamic, especially from the inside. The arena building is wrapped by a suspended façade covered with ceramic facets that can be rotated individually to create a play of “waves”.
The neighborhood surrounding the stadium will be further revitalized with complementary facilities, such as a public park of almost two hectares and new facilities for the local school “Les Arts”.
