The city of Weil am Rhein is separated from the adjacent grounds of the regional garden exhibition through a 16 m high embankment, marked by a railway line at half level and a road at the base. To bridge across the divide, a tower was mandated. Within the filigree cable structure of the tower, two spiral flights of stairs – one of them leading upstairs and the other down – lead to the first platform at the bridge level and up to a second observation platform. This tower connects the city with a simple, partially trussed footbridge.
