Bridges León

© schlaich bergermann partner

Two bridges with four traffic lanes and one pedestrian/cyclist lane make the residential area on a peninsula south of León accessible. In a park area they span over the rivers Bernesga in the west and Torio in the east. Their slim v-shaped columns are made of elegantly formed steel tube arches which span between 7 and 9 m and allow a thin concrete deck to be used. The construction’s lightness and transparency is supported by two separate superstructures with approx. 4 m clearance. Cast steel formed tube joints not only show the structure’s flux of forces but have the advantage of durability.
