Footbridge Aldilonda around the citadel of Bastia

©

The new L’Aldilonda path will create an enhanced public area between the citadel and the sea with a promenade for residents and tourists. The path follows Bastia’s changing waterfront topography in a variety of ways, in some places bringing pedestrians directly to the water and in others rising to an elevation of 5 m above the waves. Elsewhere the promenade becomes cave-like under the fortification walls and a gallery is illuminated by a light shaft where pedestrians can find access to the citadel via an internal staircase. Due to its direct location by the sea, the concrete structure is heavily exposed to storms and must withstand the enormous forces of the surf.
Since its completion, the path offers resting places, public space and unique views over the picturesque city and the sea.
