Swimming Pool Foshan

The new Century Lotus Sports Park in Foshan was built for the 12th Guangdong Province Sports Meeting in 2006 and includes a stadium, a natatorium and other sports facilities.
The pools are constructed in a series, with lateral stands. Stands and pools are embedded in an artificial hill. Diagonally arranged tube arches made of steel span over the longitudinal footprint, resting on triangular abutments. Supporting cables stretch between the abutments, ensuring the stability of the multilayered, back-ventilated membrane cover.
The damp indoor climate and thus major temperature flucutations required a multilayered, back-ventilated membrane construction.
For the Province Sports Meeting the permanent capacity of 2,800 spectators was increased up to 5,000 through mobile stands.
schlaich bergermann partner was also commissioned the structural design of the nearby cicular stadium, also covered by a folded membrane structure.
