The Grand Theatre is located in the new Culture Park of Tianjin. Built on a stone base, three free standing venues (opera house, concert hall and multifunctional hall) open up towards the lake via broad stairways.
The stepped roof construction follows the traditional Chinese models. The roof structure defines a system of common horizontal layers thus creating an architectural entity of roof, facade and stone base. Suspended intermediate levels allow a support-free construction of the ground floor. The cantilevered roof edge is supported by a hollow box section. The facades are placed freely under the floating roof.
