Footbridge Daimlersteg in Sindelfingen

© Ingolf Pompe

The footbridge links the new car park P305 and the premises of the Daimler production plant in Sindelfingen.
Geometric constraints, such as the layout of the car park, the Gottlieb-Daimler-Strasse over which the bridge spans, as well as the network of paths on the factory premises, required a straight structure that crosses the traffic lanes at an oblique angle. The bridge is accessed via a set of stairs to the east, while on the west side the crossing leads to the second level of the car park.
The superstructure, which is equipped with a heated deck, has been designed as a hollow steel box with five spans resting on slender pier walls made of plate steel. A slender Y-column sets a visual highlight at the bridge centre thus emphasizing the clear and modest design of the structure.
