Footbridge Kroatensteg

The design of a new and busy inner city link across the stream Josefsbach was part of the scheme for the 2014 Landesgartenschau (regional garden show). In its slender, integral construction the single-span pedestrian and cycle bridge combines aesthetic design and judicious engineering. To the east of the stream it meets the specified clearing above the new river walk. Towards the west the T-beam of the extremely slender superstructure vaults in a wide radius into the abutment block. This creates a dynamic and at the same time modest appearance of the bridge. Both the concrete superstructure and the abutment were cast in-situ. The fact that it has neither joints nor structural bearings, and that the banister is made of stainless-steel makes it a sturdy and almost maintenance-free construction at very low costs in up keeping. LED lighting integrated in the handrail illuminates the crossing at night time.
