A spoke-and-wheel roof structure was chosen for the Bukit Jalil National Stadium with a seating capacity of 100,000 spectators, built for the Commonwealth Games 1998.
38 cable trusses are stretched between the steel compression ring at the outer edge of the grandstand (the rim) and the two inner tension rings straddling the columns. The tension rings are the hub of the pre-tensioned system. The light-weight, doubly-curved roof membrane is stretched across bent tubes and arranged on the upper radial cables (the spokes) of the primary system.
