The new building for the School of Film and Television Arts (SoFTA) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is located on the northwestern edge of the building complex. The most impressive of all buildings is spanned by a unique roof structure. Its triangular geometry follows the overall shape of the site. In order to minimise the use of supporting columns and maximise the length of the front cantilever, the roof is designed as a single-layer steel grid shell. Thanks to its design, the free-form roof provides public space offering attractive common areas for students and visitors alike.
